How can you help soothe client emotions in a roller coaster market?

Let’s face it- the market this year has been up and down and all around.  For investors, this can do a number on their emotions.

Whether they are in the “now’s a perfect time to invest camp” (I call these the glass half full investors) or the “things are too good, its time for the next drop” (glass half empty investors), both camps will have their own set of thoughts and needed support from you, their advisor.  That’s to say nothing of the clients whose thoughts are everywhere between the two.

“Your clients have entrusted you with their financial success, and sometimes that means dealing with their emotional reactions and behavioral habits”.

Most behaviors will fall into 4 categories:

  • Overconfidence
  • Anchoring effect
  • Confirmation bias
  • Overreaction
