How to Really Grow and Sustain a Successful Business…. Make It; Don’t Fake It

Posted by Tarah Carlow on March 26, 2014

It’s all about heart.  Yes, that’s right.  If your business doesn’t have heart, you can take your charts, analytics, product and margins and just toss them out the door.  Clever marketers can make your business look like it has a heart and that you care about your clients but success comes in your actions; not words.  If your workday is about making a positive impact on the lives of your clients I believe everything else will fall into place.

V2A business that has heart puts a priority on building relationships with their clients.  It is in fact the focus.  As a result, it has engaged clients; not just satisfied ones.  Satisfied clients basically means they aren’t running for the exits- yet.  You can pat yourself on the back that you are average.  Engaged clients are invested in the business.  And I don’t mean financially invested; I mean emotionally invested.  They provide feedback to try to make not just your business better but you as a person better.  They actively participate and are authentic in their interactions with you.

Don’t have these kinds of clients?  Are you asking them for feedback?  Are you actionably trying to build a relationship with them and sustaining that relationship?  Do you truly care about them?  Are you being authentic?  Really?

And to you “naysayers”:  No, I’m not saying that “all you need is love”….of course you must be smart in all the traditional business ways.  But I suggest making this the center of your business; it opens up a whole world of possibilities not available otherwise.

I follow Sandi Krakowski’s blog and ran across this piece that she wrote.  I swear truer words haven’t been written.  I love what she says at the end, “Step out, really care and build the business of your dreams!”
