Take the Plunge: Make a Promise to Your Employees

Posted by Tarah Carlow on September 30, 2015

I have nothing I can promise, you say?  Who would be dumb enough to actually promise something?  Well you better be if you want your employees to stick around.  And let’s take it a step forward- forget sticking around- how about being passionate and engaged in the work they are doing?  That takes a promise, my friend.  If you really think about the relationships worth anything in your life, they all involve a promise: it’s kind of a no-brainer when you really put your mind to it.

Now, when I say a promise, I’m not saying that you are promising to pay them a certain amount and they have no skin in the game.  No, it actually goes much deeper and more emotional than that.  Here is an example of Prospera’s employee promise:

employee promise

At Prospera, the employee promise is the basis for our work environment. It reminds us that our internal financial professionals are the most important resource in providing excellent service to our clients. It also reminds us that all of our interactions should be defined by our core values; the values upon which Prospera has been built.

As the Ritz Carlton Leadership Center puts it,

“The moment you become a leader, you not only have to manage processes and projects—you have to manage relationships. While it’s easy to lose sight of your employees in the midst of day-to-day operations, you should take time to connect with your team. Your relationship with your personnel can greatly impact productivity and employee engagement. Learning about employees, letting them know that they are important and that their contributions are valuable will help motivate and inspire your team. When leaders at The Ritz-Carlton show genuine care, they are modeling the genuine care expected of all of our Ladies and Gentlemen. “

At Prospera, we aspire to be the gold standard for boutique independent firms.  There is no way we get there without mutual promises and respect.  Regardless of your corporate goals, taking care of your team should be #1 on your to-do list…oh, and in case you forgot, it starts with a promise.

Until next week,
